Not every epic loot drop is worth equipping when you’re on the job hunt. I’ll show you how to break down job offers just like you would a new gear drop in your favorite RPG.

Because, some roles sparkle with shiny perks, but hide burnout debuffs, dead-end paths, and toxic teams.

Also, I played some Mario Kart World.

Job hunting Tip of the week 💡

Populate Your “Skills” for Better Discoverability on LinkedIn

Your LinkedIn profile is like a game character sheet. These skills are your attributes, and they can make or break how recruiters find you. Just as you wouldn’t overlook equipping the right weapons or abilities in your favorite RPG, ignoring your “Skills” section on LinkedIn could mean missing out on key opportunities.

Here’s how to level up this critical part of your LinkedIn profile:

Step 1: Choose Keywords Thoughtfully

Recruiters search for candidates using specific terms. To ensure you’re discoverable:

  • Research Job Listings: Look at roles you’re interested in and note recurring keywords. For example, instead of just listing “Design,” you might use terms like “UI/UX Design” or “Graphic Design.”

  • Industry Buzzwords: Stay updated on your industry’s lingo. For gaming, skills like “Game Development,” “Unity,” or “Quality Assurance Testing” are commonly searched.

Step 2: Be Specific, Not Generic

Broad terms won’t set you apart. Drill down into the details:

  • Instead of “Leadership,” highlight “Team Leadership” or “Cross-Functional Team Management.”

  • Replace “Data Analysis” with “SQL Query Optimization” or “Tableau Dashboard Creation.”

Specificity shows expertise and aligns better with what recruiters are searching for.

Step 3: Back It Up with Proof

Your skills section should reflect your real abilities. Prove your credibility by:

  • Getting Endorsements: Ask colleagues or classmates to endorse your skills. This boosts your profile’s credibility.

  • Showcasing Results: Highlight how you applied each skill in your job descriptions. For example:

    • Skill: Project Management

    • Example: “Managed a team of 5 developers to deliver a multiplayer game feature on schedule, increasing user engagement by 25%.”

Step 4: Keep It Relevant

Don’t clutter your skills list with outdated or irrelevant abilities. Prioritize those that:

  1. Match your current career goals.

  2. Reflect in-demand skills for your target industry.

  3. Show adaptability and growth in your field.

Step 5: Organize Strategically

LinkedIn allows you to pin your top three skills. Use these slots for the most impactful and relevant abilities. Make sure these skills align with your career aspirations and resonate with the types of roles you’re pursuing.

Pro Tips to Gain an Edge

  • Leverage LinkedIn Learning: Completing courses and certifications adds credibility to your skills and gives you a badge to showcase them on your profile.

  • Optimize for ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems): Many recruiters use ATS and tools that scan LinkedIn profiles for keywords. The more aligned your skills are with job descriptions, the better your chances of appearing in search results.

I made a video about ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems), you can check it out here:

  • Update Regularly: Your skills should evolve as your career progresses. Treat your LinkedIn profile like a living document—refresh it as you acquire new competencies or certifications.

Optimizing your LinkedIn “Skills” section is a small but impactful way to stand out in the job market. Think of it as fine-tuning your loadout before a boss fight, success is all about having the right tools equipped.

Take 15 minutes this week to update your profile, and you’ll be one step closer to leveling up your job search!

What’s new with Dellyn Digital📝🎮?

This week, I made a poll on my LinkedIn.

I wanted to see, if anyone would be interested in this podcast idea I’ve been thinking about for about 2 years.

It’s called “Playing the Corporate Game”.

So far about 94% out of 35 votes as of today want to see this happen. I still have a week left on it, but I think it’s safe to say people want to see this.

I am going to start making an outline for it now, but I want to reach my goal of making 100 long form videos on my YouTube channel. I have about 56 videos already and I only started on Nov.16 2024.

Also, I want to get used to this new editing software I just got, Discript (I am loving it, by the way).

Don’t worry, I am going to press start on this podcast this year. I already have some people in mind.

Aside from that, I was praised at work for lowering time to fill by 50%. This is an important metric for my role. Best believe, I am going to add that to my resume and Achievement list book.

It’s important to keep track of the impact you’re making at a company.

Oh, and I am really looking forward to playing some Donkey Kong: Bananza this week!

I am going to live stream it and make a series on it.

Between that game, Mario Kart World, Doom the Dark Ages, and Oblivion Remaster.

I set for the channel. Once I am done with Oblivion Remaster I am going to play the best rated RPG game of 2025.
