Job hunting Tip of the week 💡

Why Engaging Actively on LinkedIn is the new way to look for work

Think of LinkedIn as your professional multiplayer game.

Connecting, collaborating, and contributing are how you gain XP (experience points) in your career.

While simply having a profile is a good start, actively engaging on the platform can turn it into a powerful tool for building relationships, expanding your network, and attracting job opportunities.

It’s how I was able to land something in 80 days after my Halloween layoff I got in 2024.

You can check out the video here if you want the details.

Here’s your playbook for maximizing engagement on LinkedIn:

Step 1: Post Consistently

Sharing your own content keeps you visible and positions you as a thought leader.

What to Post ?

• Insights or lessons from your work experience.
• Relevant industry news or your take on trending topics.
• Behind-the-scenes looks at your projects or career journey.
• Frequency: Aim for 1–2 posts per week. Quality over quantity is key.

Step 2: Comment Strategically

Engagement isn’t just about broadcasting your ideas; it’s about joining conversations in your space.

• Find Opportunities: Follow leaders in your field, companies you admire, or hashtags related to your industry.

• Say what’s in your head: Add meaningful comments that show your expertise or unique perspective.

• Here’s an Example for you: Instead of “Great post!” say, “This is a helpful breakdown of gaming industry trends. I’ve noticed similar shifts in indie game development, especially around accessibility features.”

Step 3: Build Genuine Connections

Think of networking as co-op mode, you grow stronger together.

• Personalized Invites: When sending connection requests, always include a note explaining why you want to connect.

• This is how I would go about it: “Hi [Name], I’m inspired by your work in [specific field or role] and would love to connect and learn from your expertise. I’ve been in the field for X amount of time and think it’s XYZ.”

• Follow Up: Once connected, engage with their posts or send a thoughtful message to start a conversation. Thinking about how you can add value and give first then ask for something later.

Step 4: Share and Amplify Others

Boosting others’ content shows you’re collaborative and supportive in your field.

• Share Posts: Add your own commentary when resharing. For example:

“This article by [Author] is a great resource for aspiring game developers. I especially loved the section on storytelling mechanics. During my time in the field, I did XYZ. What’s your take on it?”

• Celebrate Success: Congratulate peers on promotions, certifications, or milestones, they’ll remember your encouragement.

Step 5: Join Groups and Participate

LinkedIn Groups are like guilds in a game; they connect you with like-minded individuals. More eyes on you when you network with other groups.

• What to Look For: Groups related to your industry, interests, or career goals.

• How to Contribute: Share insights, ask questions, or help others solve challenges.

Pro Cheat codes for Advanced Engagement

• Tag Strategically: When mentioning others in your posts or comments, tag them to spark conversations. (Ask them first if it’s ok)

• Polls and Questions: Use LinkedIn’s tools to create interactive content that encourages engagement from your network. (Get creative here)

• Track Your Impact: Use LinkedIn’s analytics to see which posts resonate most and refine your strategy accordingly. (Keeping track of who is coming to your profile is helpful when posting online, you can follow up with people easier when you do)

Engaging actively on LinkedIn is like showing up to daily quests, it’s how you stay visible, build connections, and unlock opportunities.

Take 10 minutes each day to engage with your network, and watch your professional presence grow!

It’s leveling me up.

I going to take my time playing this, I want to explore the areas as much as I can before I go to the next sections.

This game is deep, (lol dig joke).

Also, I am hearing talks about a Nintendo Direct coming out this week?

Let’s see if it happens.

I have a video idea that I want to make for Bananza, but let me play the game some more first.
