Dellyn Digital: Job Hunting Strategy Guide Issue 45
Your level up, is here Job Seeker!
Newest YouTube video(s) this week:
In this week’s video, I am reacting to CNBC's video "How Fake Job Seekers Are Stealing Remote Jobs". In my career as a Talent Acquisition Recruiter this is something that pops up every now and then. It’s a two-way street, when it comes to getting a job. If you’re on the job hunt and using AI, don’t use this this way.
Also, I played some Mario Kart World.
HR is lonely. But it doesn’t have to be.
The best HR advice comes from those in the trenches. That’s what this is: real-world HR insights delivered in a newsletter from Hebba Youssef, a Chief People Officer who’s been there. Practical, real strategies with a dash of humor. Because HR shouldn’t be thankless—and you shouldn’t be alone in it.
Job hunting Tip of the week 💡
Maximize the “Open to Work” Feature on LinkedIn
Letting recruiters know you’re open to new opportunities can significantly boost your visibility, but it’s not just about flipping a switch. Using LinkedIn’s “Open to Work” feature strategically can make a big difference in how you’re discovered by recruiters and employers.
Here’s how to make the most of it:
⸻
Step 1: Turn On the Feature
1. Go to your LinkedIn profile and click the “Open to” button beneath your photo.
2. Select “Finding a New Job.”
3. Add details like job titles, locations, and start date availability.
⸻
Step 2: Optimize for the Right Audience
Choose Your Visibility:
• “Recruiters Only”: Lets only recruiters see your status.
• “All LinkedIn Members”: Adds a green “Open to Work” banner to your profile photo, making it visible to your broader network.
• If privacy is a concern, stick to recruiters-only visibility.
⸻
Step 3: Be Specific with Your Preferences
Recruiters often use filters to find candidates.
Help them find you:
• Job Titles: List specific roles you’re targeting (e.g., “Game Designer,” “UX Specialist,” “Software Developer”).
• Locations: Include remote work if applicable.
• Start Date: Specify when you’re ready to begin (immediately or within a set time).
⸻
Step 4: Add Keywords to Your Profile
Your headline, summary, and skills section should reflect your desired roles and industry.
For example:
• Headline: “Game Developer | Unity & Unreal Engine | Passion for Immersive Worlds”
• Summary: Highlight relevant skills, experiences, and career goals.
⸻
Step 5: Keep Your Profile Engaging
• Professional Photo: A clear, high-quality image increases profile views.
• Compelling About Section: Use storytelling to showcase your passion, experience, and goals.
• Featured Section: Highlight standout projects, portfolios, or articles.
⸻
Step 6: Engage on LinkedIn
The more active you are, the more visible you’ll become.
• Post about your job search journey, share articles, or comment on posts in your industry.
• Join and participate in LinkedIn groups relevant to your field.
⸻
📊 Pro Tips for the “Open to Work” Feature
Update Regularly:
Adjust your preferences as your job search evolves.
• Stay Active: Activity boosts your profile visibility.
• Use the Banner Strategically: If you’re comfortable, the green banner can increase profile views and signal your availability to your network.
⸻
Let LinkedIn do the heavy lifting for you by ensuring your profile is optimized and discoverable.
Treat it as your personal marketing hub, and you’ll attract opportunities that align with your career goals.
⸻
Engaging actively on LinkedIn is like showing up to daily quests in WOW.
It’s how you stay visible, build connections, and unlock opportunities.
Take 10 minutes each day to engage with your network, and watch your professional presence grow!
