Job hunting Tip of the week 💡
Start a “Job Search Debrief” After Every Interview
Interviews are like boss battles in, like in the Dark Souls games.
Whether you win or lose, you learn.
Most job seekers move on without reflecting.
That’s a missed opportunity when playing the job-hunting game.
⸻
🎯 Why It’s Powerful:
✅ Helps you improve performance with each round
✅ Keeps your confidence grounded in data, not emotions
✅ Makes it easier to spot patterns in the feedback or questions you’re getting
✅ Helps you write more personalized follow-ups
⸻
📝 What to Include in Your Debrief:
1. What went well?
→ Did you build rapport? Nail a story? Ask thoughtful questions?
2. What could have gone better?
→ Did you blank on a question? Talk too much? Miss the “why us”?
3. What questions were asked?
→ Save them — they’ll likely appear again in future interviews.
4. Did you mention your key strengths?
→ If not, you know what to prioritize next time.
5. How did you feel after the interview?
→ Gut checks are useful for culture fit awareness. Trust me on this one.
⸻
🔁 Bonus Power-Up:
Create a simple excel spreadsheet or Notion board where you log every interview.
If you’re not the Excel spreadsheet kind of person like me, check out Huntr and Teal below.
Both have a feature where you can keep track of the roles you apply to.
Over time, you’ll have a tactical database of what’s working and what needs refining so you’re not moving in the dark.
Think of this as a post-battle review in your quest log. The better you track the fights, the faster you level up.
⸻
If you want more 1:1 help, you can book a personalized coaching session to tailor your profile and resume.
What’s New with the Job Market this week?
So, Paramount just dropped a massive layoff this past week.
That’s 2,000 to 3,000 employees right before the holidays….
This is a tough reminder that your job doesn’t actually belong to you… it belongs to the company writing your paycheck.
I’ve been there myself. When I was laid off on Halloween last year, trust me, Thanksgiving food and Christmas music were the last things on my mind.
What can we learn from this?
New leadership = red flag. Like a surprise boss battle, mergers and new execs usually mean restructuring. Employees are often the first cut.
Holiday timing is a critical hit. The job market is flooded, hiring slows until February, and stress skyrockets.
The career reality check. You could be an all-star employee in Q1 and still be tossed aside in Q4. Loyalty doesn’t equal security anymore.
That’s why you need to level up your strategy, when you think about work:
Treat your career like a business
Stay loyal to yourself first
Keep your resume and LinkedIn fresh
Build an identity beyond the 9–5
Create something of your own using your skills
While your job belongs to the company, your career belongs to you.
Don’t wait for the Game Over screen to start planning your next move.
I’ll be breaking down different companies in a new series I’m working on YouTube channel.
In this new age of looking for work and work, you can’t just play defense, Job Seeker.
You need to act, not react.
