Job hunting Tip of the week 💡
Research the Hiring Manager (or person that is interviewing you) before the Interview
Most job seekers prepare for the company but forget about the person they will actually speak with.
Taking time to learn about your interviewer can give you an edge.
⸻
🔍 1. Look Them Up on LinkedIn
Check their career path, interests, and posts.
This helps you understand what matters to them and how they think about their work.
⸻
💬 2. Find Common Ground
Shared connections, schools, or interests are small details that can help build rapport.
Mentioning something you genuinely have in common creates a more natural conversation.
⸻
🎯 3. Tailor Your Answers
If the hiring manager has a background in marketing, frame your answers with customer impact in mind.
If they come from engineering, focus on problem solving and efficiency. Speaking their language shows awareness.
⸻
🎮 4. Think of It Like Studying a Boss Fight
You would not challenge a boss in a game without learning their moves first.
Researching your interviewer helps you anticipate what they care about and respond with confidence.
⸻
TL;DR: Researching the hiring manager allows you to connect on a human level, tailor your answers, and stand out as a prepared candidate.

What’s New with the Job Market this week?
I came across an interesting article titled “Silicon Valley’s graying workforce: Gen Z staff cut in half at tech companies as the average age goes up by 5 years”.
Here’s some of the key points I got from it:
📉 Decline in Gen Z Representation
The proportion of Gen Z employees (ages 21–25) at large public tech companies dropped from 15% in January 2023 to 6.8% by August 2025.
Private tech firms saw a similar decline—from 9.3% to 6.8% in the same period.
📈 Rising Average Age
The average age of employees at large public tech companies rose from 34.3 to 39.4 years.
At private tech firms, the increase was more modest—from 35.1 to 36.6 years.
🤖 AI’s Role in Workforce Shifts
AI automation is disrupting entry-level roles, particularly those traditionally filled by younger workers.
Gen Z, despite being highly proficient with digital tools and AI, is being edged out of tech roles.
🧓 Millennials Holding On
Millennials are maintaining their positions amid economic uncertainty, inflation, and job displacement due to AI.
Senior employees are seen as less vulnerable to AI disruption due to their experience and judgment-based roles.
🗣 Expert Insight
Matt Schulman, CEO of Pave, notes a “tale of two cities” where senior professionals are secure, while younger workers face instability and fewer opportunities.
This article hits the nail on the head when it comes to people holding on to their roles and Gen Z (and I feel like other Gens) having issues with landing a tech role in this current job market. My advice is to use your skills in more than one sector and use AI to get you to the next level. Keep your third eye open, the next 2-4 years is going to be strange.
