💡Job hunting Tip of the week 💡

Do a Weekly Job Search Audit when job hunting

Most job seekers grind nonstop without ever reviewing what’s actually working.

High-level job hunters do the opposite.

They pause once a week and audit their strategy so they can adjust fast and move smarter.

🎯 1. What Is a Weekly Audit?

It’s a simple 15 minute review of your entire job hunt.

You look at what actions you took, what moved you forward, what didn’t work at all, and what needs to shift for the week ahead.

🔍 2. Why It Works

A weekly audit helps you

• Stop wasting time on tactics that produce nothing

• Identify what consistently brings you callbacks

• Stay intentional instead of scattered

• Reduce burnout by focusing your energy

• Build momentum through small, smart adjustments

This is how you evolve your strategy instead of repeating the same week over and over.

🧩 3. How to Run Your Weekly Audit

Review these five things:

• What you did this week

• What led to results

• What didn’t bring any traction

• What needs to change next week

• What one action you will double down on

Keep it honest, simple, and consistent.

🎮 4. Think of It Like Reviewing Your Stats After a Boss Fight

In games, you check your damage, healing, cooldowns, and gear before jumping into the next encounter.

You adjust so the next fight goes smoother.

A weekly audit is the same thing for your job hunt.

You refine your build so you stack the odds in your favor.

💡 TL;DR: A weekly audit keeps your job search intentional, efficient, and evolving.

It helps you focus on what works and cut what doesn’t, so you make progress every single week.

What’s New with the Job Market this week?

Consumer confidence has dropped sharply, unemployment is creeping up, and layoffs remain widespread across major industries.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of the latest developments:

📉 Consumer Confidence & Sentiment

  • The US consumer confidence index fell to 88.7 in November, its lowest since April, largely due to concerns about job prospects and high costs following the government shutdown.

  • Fewer people believe jobs are “plentiful” (27.6%, down from 28.6% in October), while more say jobs are “hard to get” (17.9%).

  • Expectations for income growth and business conditions have also weakened, signaling caution heading into 2026.

📊 Employment Data

  • The delayed September jobs report showed the economy added 119,000 jobs, beating expectations but still modest compared to earlier years.

  • The unemployment rate rose to 4.4%, the highest in nearly four years.

  • Job gains were concentrated in healthcare (+43,000) and leisure & hospitality (+37,000), while transportation and warehousing lost 25,000 jobs.

  • Average hourly earnings grew 0.2% month-over-month and 3.8% year-over-year, slightly below forecasts.

🏢 Layoffs & Hiring Freezes

  • Tech layoffs continue: Apple cut sales roles, HP announced plans to eliminate 4,000–6,000 jobs globally by 2028, Synopsys is reducing staff by 10% (~2,000 jobs), and Playtika is cutting 20% of its workforce.

  • Amazon confirmed 14,000 corporate job cuts, while Target is eliminating 1,800 corporate positions.

  • Other industries are affected too: ConocoPhillips plans to reduce up to 25% of its workforce, General Motors is cutting EV and battery jobs, and Paramount has announced multiple waves of layoffs.

  • In total, over 4,200 companies have announced mass layoffs in 2025, making it the worst year for job cuts since 2009.

  • Posted wage growth has slowed to 2.4% year-over-year, down from higher levels earlier in the year.

  • Inflation is once again outpacing wage growth, eroding real income gains.

  • Job postings remain slightly above pre-pandemic levels (+3.4%), but hiring momentum has cooled, with monthly job gains steadily slowing.

  • Remote job postings have stabilized at around 8.2% of total listings, showing hybrid work remains a fixture.

⚠️ Key Takeaway

The labor market is showing mixed signals: modest job growth in healthcare and hospitality, but rising unemployment, slowing wage growth, and widespread layoffs across tech, retail, and energy.

Confidence is weakening, suggesting households and businesses are bracing for a tougher 2026.
