Steam's Big Announcement & The Future of Gaming
The gaming landscape just shifted in a major way.
Steam has announced not one, but three new pieces of hardware that could reshape how we think about PC gaming and consoles.
The Steam Machine (aka "The Gabe Cube") is a compact6x6 inch box that packs six times more power than the Steam Deck. What makes this particularly interesting is Steam's pricing strategy, they're targeting the lower-end PC market ($500-$800 range) rather than competing directly with consoles.
When you combine that price point with Steam's legendary sales and massive game library, this could be a genuine game-changer for people who've been curious about PC gaming but intimidated by the cost and complexity of building arig.
The new Steam Controller comes bundled with the machine and brings over all the functionality of the Steam Deck, including gyro controls, trackpads for traditional PC games, and an impressive 35-hour battery life.
It's clear Valve is thinking about accessibility and bringing PC gaming to the living room.
Then there's the Steam Frame VR headset, a standalone device that doesn't require PC tethering but can stream wirelessly from your PC if you want.
You can install games directly on it or expand storage with memory cards.
The projection mode looks particularly compelling for casual gaming sessions.
Meanwhile, other big franchises are struggling to find their footing.
Black Ops 7 launched to harsh criticism, with its always-online campaign featuring no pause button or checkpoints, and it's being massively outperformed by both Battlefield 6 and the surprise hit Arc Raiders.
Speaking of which, if you haven't tried Arc Raiders yet, you're missing out on one of the most unique shooter experiences in years, every match tells a different story depending on whether players decide to cooperate or compete.
GTA 6 got delayed again (to November,19th 2026), but honestly, nobody's surprised. Rockstar has a pattern, and we'd rather they take their time and deliver something special.
The same goes for Elder Scrolls 6, though there's more anxiety around that one given Bethesda's recent track record.
The gaming world is changing fast, and it's an exciting time to be a player.
Whether you're into competitive shooters, open-world adventures, or just want an affordable entry point into PC gaming, there's never been more options.
